Forum: forums Subject: Some problems of accessing the internet archive

I'm very glad to find that the Internet Archive is a very useful resource for many applications. I have tried to access the data stored in this storage for several times, but I can never manage to do it. I hope to get the precious suggestions from the public.

My situations are shown as the following. I have registered a account in the Internet Archive last year. I have read all the materials related, and I know it is possible to make a good use of the data stored in the archives for my problem. Although I have tried my best
to access these data, I can not even connect to the server. And then I found that there was a tip which read : the researcher access had not been available and need a return-back after 3 months to check it out.
It is very regret that when I return back there after nearly one and half a year, it is still not available yet. After that, I want to find other ways to utilize this resource. I read the suggestions provided on the web page, and know that we can utilize some tools to address this problem. However, in the demo projects provided by the site, I can only see the strategies of how the tools work, rather than the practices of connecting the server and how to process the data. Therefore I face a great difficulty in tackling this problem. I know that there must be some problems of my understanding how to use the resource.

Could you give me some suggestions on solving this problem? If some usage instances could be provided, that will very helpful for me. Any reply for this question would be appreciated! Thank you very much!

It is my fault not to explain my need clearly :). I’m doing some research about information retrieval, and find that the “internet Archive” has collected a considerable number of web pages and provided users with plenty of tools. I want to extract some special URLs from the pages. In the “Example Code” page of the “Research Access” subdirectory, I get a very useful project applying to my problem. The name of the project is “Create list of URLs containing keyword”. However I can not make this project work, because I could not connect to the servers which are storing all the data. I have tried to ping the address “research.archive.org”, but I failed. The address could not be reached. Another problem faced me is that I can not exhaustedly understand the descriptions in the page of “http://www.archive.org/web/researcher/data_available.php”. Could you do me a favor to conduct me to fetch those data? Thank you!

http://www.archive.org/web/researcher/researcher.php
this page says that researcher access is 'temporary' down (since 2002?). no wonder you can't connect.

did you try e-mailing info(at)archive(dot)org? they could give you more direct answers.

Yes, I have tried this way. However, by now, I have received none answer from them. Therefore I try to get some assistances from the forum and hope to find some other way to utilize those resource. It would be extremely regret to leave those precious data resource unutilized. I am really eager to find some way to make full use of the precious. And thank you for your answers again :)
